Because no one in the US has ever been sentenced for decades for selling or trafficking drugs…this only happens in foreign countries.
Fogel’s 14-year sentence is comparable to federal drug sentencing guidelines. Same for Britney Griner, who got 9 years . If anything, 9 years is small relative to the decades-long sentences not uncommonly handed out in the US for dealing or trafficking drugs (although in fairness, possession of drugs for individual consumption is punished much less severely).
The world is as unfair as it can get away with, but she has three diversity points in her favor. In this case, the US government will try to help.
