The big story is Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Florida on charges of rape and sex trafficking:
LONDON – Influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in Miami after British authorities issued 38 new charges against them, including allegations of rape and sex trafficking.
The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) released a statement saying that the two men had been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on Saturday. The CPS said it was “seeking extradition” for the two brothers, aiming to bring them to Britain to face a total of 59 charges.
Given how only 2 days ago I published a post on policing and comparing the US criminal justice system vs the UK, my post is directly relevant. When this story first broke, I–and presumably many others–assumed, based solely on the headline announcing their arrest, that they had been indicted by the feds for fraud related to their businesses. This would have been the worse outcome rather than what actually happened.
The bad news for the Tate brothers is that they’re under arrest. The good news–if there is any–is they are being charged by the UK, which has one of the most lenient justice systems in the developed world. My guess is they’ll serve little, if any, time, assuming they’re extradited at all. If you’re charged, the UK is about as good a place as you could hope for, maybe followed by Canada. By contrast, the United States is among the worst, followed perhaps by North Korea in terms of conditions and long sentences, if we’re making a ranking.
Although it’s early, I predict nothing bad will happen to them. They will serve little to no jail time. The charges will either not stand or they will serve little time, as the UK has a joke criminal justice system.
